Characteristics of Digital Substation Automation System

 1 Intelligent primary equipment

The signal circuits detected and the operation drive circuits controlled in primary equipment are designed with microprocessors and optoelectronic technology, simplifying the structure of conventional electromechanical relays and control circuits. Digital programmable controllers and digital common signal networks replace traditional wire connections. In other words, conventional relays and their logic circuits in the secondary circuits of substations are replaced by programmable programs, and conventional strong-current analog signals and control cables are replaced by optoelectronic digital signals and optical fibers.

    2 Networked secondary equipment

Conventional secondary equipment in substations, such as relay protection devices, ’anti-misoperation locking devices, measurement and control devices, telecontrol devices, fault recording devices, voltage and reactive power control, synchronization operation devices, and the developing online condition monitoring devices, are all designed and manufactured based on standardized, modularized microprocessors. The connections between devices all use high-speed network communication. Secondary equipment no longer has repeated I/O field interfaces of conventional functional devices, and through the network, data sharing and resource sharing are truly realized. Conventional functional devices become logical functional modules here.

  3 Automated operation management system

The substation operation management automation system should include power production operation data. The transformer on-load tap changer tester uses computer control and specially designed measurement circuits to measure parameters such as transition time, transition waveform, transition resistance, and three-phase synchronization of on-load tap changers. Status recording and statistics are paperless; data information is layered and exchanged automatically; when a fault occurs in substation operation, it can immediately provide a fault analysis report, point out the cause of the fault, and propose fault handling suggestions; the system can automatically issue substation equipment maintenance reports, that is, the conventional "periodic maintenance" of substation equipment is changed to "condition-based maintenance".
