With the further development of China's economy and the continuous improvement of people's living standards, the domestic electricity consumption is growing every year. With the increase in electricity consumption, the issue of electrical safety has become increasingly severe. Residual current devices (RCDs) serve as a safeguard for the electrical safety of industrial enterprises and residential users. Therefore, the selection and configuration of RCDs are crucial. This article briefly discusses how to select and install residual current devices.
To select and configure a residual current device properly, one must first understand its working principle. Its basic circuit diagram is as follows:
The basic principle of a residual current device is based on Kirchhoff's law: ∑I=O. Under normal conditions, if the electrical equipment is a three-phase balanced load, the vector sum of the primary currents is zero, i.e., Iu+Iv+Iw=O; if the electrical equipment is a single-phase load, the vector sum of the primary currents is also zero, i.e., Iu+In=0, Iv+In=O, Iw+In=O. In the zero-sequence current transformer, the vector sum of the magnetic flux in the iron core of the current transformer TAN is also zero. There is no current output in the secondary winding of TAN, the trip device YA does not operate, and the RCD operates normally. When equipment leakage or personal electric shock occurs, the fault current Id flows through the earth back to the neutral point of the power transformer TM, forming a circuit. When the current reaches the set value, the trip device YA operates, the residual current device RCD trips, cutting off the faulty circuit, thereby providing protection.
The selection and configuration of residual current devices should be determined based on actual usage conditions.
In places with water such as bathrooms and swimming pools, the risk of electric shock is relatively high, so residual current devices with high sensitivity and fast response should be selected. In hotels, household appliances are generally pre-installed with residual current devices, so a residual current device with a residual operating current not greater than 30mA and fast operation can be selected. In general environments, the operating current should not exceed 30mA, and the operating time should not exceed 0.1s. These two parameters ensure that if a person in our building gets an electric shock, it will not cause pathological physiological dangerous effects.
When selecting and configuring a residual current device, one should also consider the unbalanced leakage action in the circuit. The installation position should take into account electromagnetic interference, so that the malfunction rate of the instrument will be reduced.
Residual current devices are related to electrical safety. Therefore, when selecting and configuring them, one should be practical and adapt to local conditions. Select appropriate equipment according to different usage places to achieve effective utilization of resources.
